Next Friday night sees the start of a brand new theatre festival in Birmingham.
Designed as the first ever “Birmingham Fringe Festival,” Birmingham Fest offers a programme of events packed full with new writing, dance, comedy and much more! The festival will run from the 12th to the 28th July with four venues taking part- @A.E. Harris, The Blue Orange Theatre, The Crescent and The Old Joint Stock.
The Old Joint Stock Theatre programme of events showcases the very best of local talent, as well as visiting companies from around the UK. The line-up includes everything from world dance to a play adapted from Katharine Hepburn’s memoirs.
Their Birmingham Fest programme opens with Taking Care of Business, a selection of short plays by Birmingham’s new writing collective, Big Script. More new writing follows with Parklife, a play set in Birmingham’s “pigeon park,” Off The Straight and Narrow presents a of collection of short plays for all, no matter however broad-ranging your taste, and a double bill of Appointment and Nul Points, two pieces which explore the pain and frustration of dealing with the bureaucratic world.
The OJS line up also includes three comedy shows; well-known local duo Naomi Paul and Jenny Stokes perform their stand up show Women at the Edge, resident improv troupe Foghorn Improv present their monthly show and Irresponsible Decorators invite you along to a faux lecture, Glorious Revolution, where a debate on the current European issues will commence…
Nottingham Dance Collective will be performing Around the World in 80 Days, where Phileas Fogg’s epic story is retold through dance. Geeta Von Tease presents A Night of Burlesque where well known performers Felicia Noir and Pixie Amour will be entertaining all.
This Way Madness Lies by Augustus Stephens will be one of two shows in the Birmingham Fest line up taking place in the Function Room at the OJS.
Finally, the Old Joint Stock Theatre Company will be performing Tea At Five, in preparation for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The play, based on Katharine Hepburn’s famous memoirs, will be the theatre’s first production at the Fringe.
