Nationwide efforts to bring life-saving assistance to children and families fleeing the civil war in Syria have been boosted by the boys and girls of Solihull School.

The independent school in Warwick Road held a non-uniform day at its pupils’ request that raised £1,643 for Save the Children’s Syrian Crisis Appeal.

They chose Save the Children Week to present the cheque to a charity that Solihull School has been supporting for almost 20 years.

Pupils donated £2 each for the privilege of abandoning their normal school clothes to help fund the charity’s vital work with Syria’s children.

Solihull parents and their children also helped Save the Children net £845 by taking part in last month’s Warwickshire Walk and charity meal at Jimmy Spices.

Martin Brough, a local Save the Children Volunteer and former Head of Enrichment at Solihull School, said: “The desperate plight of children in Syria really touched the hearts of Solihull School pupils who were determined to do something to help them. Their support has been brilliant.”
