This was a real Friday night salvation after the humbling against Brentford. In all probability, this saved Chris Davies’ bacon at least for now but the scenes after the game showed there is a bond between Davies and the players. To my mind, this was in doubt but am happy to be proved wrong.
New signing Dael Fry appears at the very least to have galvanised Phil Neumann, who no longer seems a bit part player to Christoph Klarer.The score could have been more convincing if a couple of gilt-edged chances had been put away and for Jay Stansfield in particular, whilst his miss was bad at least down the centre he was getting into dangerous positions. Likewise August Priske, who was a constant nuisance and laid on the winner for Neumann’s second.
Jhon Solis continued his decent run of form and Demariy Gray looked bright early on, as did Carlos Vicente. A mention, too, for Osayi Samuel who is becoming Mr. Consistent and James Beadle, who pulled off one exceptional save.
As the old saying goes, one swallow doesn’t make a summer but this was a very important win. Particularly important with the Wolves lying in wait and then the Saints up and coming. Two or three points from those games would be nice and would be real proof of progress.
