Andy Munro is unimpressed as Blues scramble a late draw at home to Sheffield Wednesday.
Third from the bottom and more bankrupt than Birmingham City Council, Sheffield Wednesday battled for their lives at St Andrews to almost bag all three points.
Yet the evening looked promising early on as star man Jay Stansfield rifled home an excellent finish, purely down to his persistence. Sadly Blues failed to build on that promising start and paid the price when a rare Wednesday attack brought about an equalizer helped by some poor play by Eiran Cashin – and to a certain extent a less than impressive attempt at a save from Ryan Allsopp.
Things got worse in the second half when Wednesday took the lead and it looked bleak for Blues, not helped by Chris Davies inexplicably taking off probably two of the best players in Patrick Roberts and Colin Doyle, to the displeasure of most of the crowd.
However, at the death a generally out of sorts Demarai Gray came up with the goods at last when he hammered home an equaliser to the delight of the Tilton. Looking at the stats, Blues should have been home and hosed with far more shots, corners and percentage of play but that means nothing unless the finishing touches are provided. Unfortunately, the team continue to persist with a slow, methodical build-up and this predictability is becoming a real problem in terms of getting results. Over to you Mr. Davies!
