Blues get a dose of the Sky Blues

Blues’ defeat at Coventry leaves Andy Munro concerned.

Forget the sending-off and the ten man excuse commonly trotted out, (except if you live in Sunderland, of course).

This was bordering on a thrashing and theB lues away goal drought continues. In fairness, due to an injury to Marvin Ducksch (will he ever be fully fit and sharp?), Lyndon Dykes led the line and despite his recent heroics as substitute, he is never going to cut the Championship mustard over 90 minutes.

Carping about a sending-off which was harsh yet still understandably an ‘unfair’ decision is just trying to paper over cracks that are beginning to show. Certainly it is time to revert to our German partnership in central defence but we must be rueing not signing Ben Davies from Rangers.

Eiran Cashin to be honest looks a liability such is his lack of pace and finesse.Alex Cochrane was missed and even though Tomoki Iwata in midfield works like a Trojan, his partner Paik Seung-ho is yet to show an ability to run the midfield for any sustainable period at Championship level.

Further up the field we have plenty of options but have yet to find the right combo. Certainly a fit Keshi Anderson would be a shoe-in and that goes for Jay Stanfield, despite him having one of his quieter games.

The question is who else do you bring in? My view would be Tommy Doyle to bolster the midfield and up front bring back Kanya Fujimoto or risk just playing Stanfield and give the speedy Patrick Roberts a chance.

Either way, Chris Davies must shoulder responsibility for both signings and tactics and although it is nowhere near a crisis, Tuesday’s match (against Wednesday!) is vital in terms of getting things back on the road.
