Lions tamed

Andy Munro spends a successful evening as Blues beat Millwall at St Andrews.

Millwall at home was never felt to be an easy fixture so it was a real surprise when, in the first couple of minutes, Alex Cochrane put Blues into the lead with a worldy shot which screamed past the static Millwall keeper.

The involvement down the flanks of both Blues fullbacks became a real problem for the Lions, especially as they linked up so well with Liam Millar and the almost unplayable Patrick Roberts

Yet one of the keys to a very efficient performance was a comparatively diminutive Max Bird, who gave a masterclass in movement up front whilst helping himself to a well-deserved goal. To top this clinical first half showing, Jay Stansfield again broke his comparatively barren spell when he smashed home a third.

Yet, this was never an easy game (as always against the Lions) and Millwall had as many shots but were criminally wasteful. If Alex Neill had any hair remaining, he would have torn it out in frustration.

Ex-Blues player Lyndon Dykes won his first header against Christoph Klarer and that was the one and only time in an ineffectual performance whilst Phil Neumann was always around to clean up. A word also for Ryan Allsop, who had a direct hand in one of the goals and whilst rarely troubled he performed a masterclass in distribution

Finally, a word for the midfield Trojans of Jhon Solis and Tomoki Iwata who generally controlled play in the middle

All in all a great win against a Lions team who must have turned up cooking on gas after thrashing Derby but met their match at St. Andrews.
