Fat Freddy’s Drop and DJ Shadow to top Sunday bill.
Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival has announced Fat Freddy’s Drop and DJ Shadow as their Sunday night headliners, and the first acts for 2027.
The Birmingham-based festival runs from Friday 9th-Sunday 11th July.
New Zealand’s Fat Freddy’s Drop are internationally regarded as one of the world’s finest live draws. Their current Based On A True Story (BOATS) 21st Anniversary Tour has seen them play to sold out venues across the EU and UK.

A record that made an instant impact – winning eight NZ Music Awards, and spending 112 weeks in the Official Aotearoa Top 40 Albums Chart – BOATS set the foundations for an eclectic musical career that has embraced sunshine reggae, soul, psychedelia, jazz, house, R&B and more.
FFD saxophonist Chopper Reeds (aka Scott Towers) said: “We played Mostly Jazz in 2023 with one of our absolute heroes, Goldie. Bringing our new line up back next year, and to play with another hero, DJ Shadow, is such an incredible honour.
“It’s just a great festival, and performing there remains one of our favourite live experiences of the past few years. The chance to hear musical legends – and also discover new music – in a beautifully relaxed setting makes it a must do.”
US hip hop DJ and producer DJ Shadow (pictured) arrives at the Brum festival as part of his celebrations to mark the 30th anniversary of 1996’s landmark Endtroducing. The first completely sampled album to be released, it instantly redefined the art of sampling and electronic music, and is widely acknowledged as one of the most influential LPs of all time.
Since Endtroducing, DJ Shadow has continued to evolve as both a producer and songwriter, working with such acts as Nas, De La Soul, Run The Jewels, King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, The Deftones, Dua Lipa, Beastie Boys and Radiohead, and later this year is set to team up with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus.
Situated in Birmingham’s idyllic Moseley Park, Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival boasts a vibrant genre-hopping programme of established international names and grassroots acts across three main stages. With a strong independent streak that extends from the headline sets, to DJ sessions, to the award-winning food and drink choices, it’s an intimate festival with a clear community spirit and loyal fanbase.
John Fell, Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul’s Booker, said: “Blending so many genres, Fat Freddy’s Drop are a perfect act to sum up Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul’s musical ethos, while hearing DJ Shadow finally perform Endtroducing in full after 30 years is going to be a very special moment.”
With more line-up announcements to come – including Friday and Saturday headliners – tickets for Mostly Jazz Funk and Soul Festival 2027 are back on sale from 10am Friday 30 October 2026. Details from mostlyjazz.co.uk.
