Bluebirds fly high

Andy Munro sees Blues beaten at Cardiff City.

This was certainly an After the Lord Mayor’s Show performance and to be honest Blues deserved nothing against a team ten places below them – which shows how competitive the Championship is.

In the first half Blues didn’t muster a proper shot in the direction of the opposition goal, which was quite frankly embarrassing, as was their performance in general.

Osayi Samuel unfortunately looked like the player he was last season and perhaps Phil Neumann should be renamed Oldmann, given his dreadful performance. Further up the field, Jhon Solis couldn’t pass straight although at least his sidekick Tomoki Iwata wasn’t quite such a liability.

In the second period things continued to be depressingly flat until Chris Davies made some substitutions, albeit rather belatedly. They certainly improved matters, although that was from a very low base, but it was too little too late and if Demarai Gray had made the most of a chance he had in the dying seconds, Blues would have achieved a footballing version of the Great Train Robbery.

One does wonder, however, if playing three attacking players behind a centre-forward leaves us light in midfield. Yet Blues are still seventh so no need for any Bluenoses to panic although this is now the time foor Davies to earn his substantial corn.

Obviously, August Priske is likely to return if fit for the continually unimpressive Carlos Vasquez but maybe Davies will leave it at that. However, if I was Messrs Bird, Roberts or Gray, I would absolutely expect a start the game after if Blues don’t take three points from the waiting Imps.
