The transfer window is about to bang shut apart from loans, so how do the rudderless Blues stand up to scrutiny in their dealings so far this summer?
Despite his lack of experience, our keeper, James Beadle, is generally a decent loan given his height and agility. In front of him it is too early to judge Dael Fry given his lack of match fitness but he should slot in well once he’s got up to speed.
I’m not sure about Kristoffer Lund, the full-back replacement for Kai Warner who has returned to the MLS. So far Lund looks bang average compared with Kai, and neither does our new striker Luis Vazquez look particularly impressive. The Argentinian has neither exceptional height or pace and to put it bluntly looks a poor man’s Marvin Ducksch, which says it all.
Similarly, our signing of Max Bird from Bristol City, rumoured to be at a cost of anything from £1 million to £5 million looks like it could be a dud given both his injury record and the fact he is already injured following a training ground setback.
None of this inspires confidence, and one wonders who sourced and recommended most of these players. If there remains a priority then it has to be a wide player so fingers crossed we get somebody in to challenge or cover for Carlos Vicente and Demarai Gray.
