Andy Munro enjoys Blues’ late winner at Blackburn Rovers.
Blackburn is rarely a happy hunting ground for Blues and that looked set to continue when ex-Canary Todd Cantwell gave Rovers the lead. Whilst we had more possession and more shots a defeat looked on the cards but although the extra minutes against Ipswich undid us, this time things evened themselves up.
In a late drama, the impressive Ethan Laird was brought down in the area and Jay Stanfield hammered home a penalty even though the opposition keeper guessed the right way. Even better, a cross was then poked home by Lyndon Dykes which hopefully will do him the world of good confidence-wise.
Three points was no more than Blues deserved, although most of the team had been decent without being outstanding. The one exception was Paik Seung-ho, who was outstanding in midfield.
The back four were generally dominant and up front Stanfield was irrepressible although his fellow striker Kyogo Furihashi failed to make much of an impression for a change.
That minor quibble apart, it was a workmanlike performance which has truly got Blues up and running, and with a couple of talented players yet to make their debut, the prospects look very bright.
