Days to go before Lichfield Festival

Family-friendly events at the forefront of annual spectacular.

There are just days to go before this year’s spectacular Lichfield Festival kicks off and the city plays host to some of the top names in music, theatre, dance, comedy and literature. Getting underway on Tuesday 8th July with al fresco Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night performed by The Lord Chamberlain’s Men, this year’s event crams in over 60 performances between 8th-20th July.

The Festival is a magnet for families too. This year sees Birmingham-based Paperback Theatre’s new outdoor performance of The Wizard of Oz, specially designed for 9-14 year olds but suitable for all, while Winnie-the-Pooh’s Songbook brings exciting adventures for younger audiences to enjoy.

Strictly Come Dancing star Neil Jones’s brand new dance-theatre spectacular, Gingerland has a family-friendly tale about being different. Created by, and starring, Jones along with a cast of brilliant dancers, there’s Latin, ballroom, hip-hop and contemporary styles in this unique event in Lichfield Cathedral.

The Sam Every (Little) Big Band takes favourite TV themes – think Fireman Sam, Match of the Day and Doctor Who – and turns them into big band classics in a show full of pizzazz that’s an ideal introduction to the genre.

And alongside the performances, there are fabulous fireworks, stilt walkers and face-painting – all free – at Beacon Park on Saturday 19th July.

A new discounted ticket scheme, launched this year, offers 30% off for Under 30s (subject to availability). There’s a 10% discount for disabled, student and unwaged festival goers, and 50% off for carers and essential companions. Discounted family tickets are also available for selected shows.

Lichfield Festival runs from 8th-20th July 2025. Highlights include The Unthanks, Tony Hadley, Black Dyke Band, Tenebrae, Jacqui Dankworth, Joe Stilgoe, Sir Willard White & Brodsky Quartet, Katie Arnstein, Tracy Borman, Mark Watson, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Jeneba Kanneh-Mason.
