Andy Munro sees Blues break another record with a win at Blackpool.
Blues breached the Football League record points tally with a fairly effortless victory at Bloomfield Road. Alfie May led the line as usual although it was the lively Ethan Laird who opened the Blues account with a neat header late in the first half following a corner.
It was men against boys for most of the first half as Blues bossed proceedings against former boss Steve Bruce’s latest team. Christoph Klarer and Ben Davies were footballing giants in the middle of the visiting defence whilst behind them, Ryan Allsop showed his usual unhurried coolness.
In terms of midfield, Marc Leonard continued to impress alongside Tomoki Iwata and Keshi Anderson never stopped grafting against his old club. Blackpool tried to up their game in the second period but the result was never really in doubt, particularly when May’s non-stop running was capped by a cool finish to put Blues two goals to the good not long after the break.
As usual the away support was outstanding, particularly for a midweek fixture, with the usual repertoire of songs from rousing renditions of Keep Right On to the current away favourite “We’re in for a Shock!” Blues fans know that the Championship won’t be a walk in the park but for most of us, next season just can’t come quickly enough.
