Blues maul the Stags

Andy Munro watches Blues beat Mansfield Town.

Blues cruised to another win on Sunday afternoon in their search for more records. However, early on Mansfield made a decent fist of it defensively but rarely threatened going forward.

Eventually the visitors’ defence was breached when Keshi Anderson played a one-two with Willum Willumsson to slide the ball home. It was just a matter of time until Blues got a second, when Willumsson scored from close-in after a shot had been parried. Hopefully that will give the big Icelander a much-needed confidence booster

Blues continued their dominance in the second period and it was no surprise that they went three up although it was a surprise that it came by virtue of Kieran Dowell’s head rather than his feet. By then it was a question of how many and it was perhaps fitting that Mr Perpetual Motion himself, Tomoki Iwata, scored with another trademark strike.

Mansfield never really got a look in once Blues had got the bit between their teeth and yet again Ryan Allsop was almost arrogant in patrolling his box. In front of him Christoph Klarer and Ben Davies were supremely dominant, allowing Ethan Laird and Alex Cochrane to overlap at will.

Up front, Jay Stansfield was a continual menace, albeit this time without reward and, the only disappointment was the Juke didn’t net in his final appearance despite the crowd almost blowing the ball home with their chants of “Jukeee!”

The backing from the crowd was fantastic and should be a big factor when we play more testing home games next season, which can’t come quick enough to most Bluenoses.
