Andy Munro watches Blues beat Bristol Rovers.
The good news for Blues fans was that Bristol Rovers never laid a glove on the team at any point but that was about it in a fairly lacklustre display against one of the worst sides in the division. Whilst, yet again, having excellent possession stats, Blues’ build-up play was a rather pedestrian back and forth between the midfield and defence which meant that the Rovers defence had time to regroup. The only exception to this ploy was Krystian Bielik, who did manage to hit some decent long balls with the required sense of urgency.
Certainly, there were still some decent performances with both Beilik and Christoph Klarer dominant to the extent of it being men against boys when it came to deal with any attacking threat from the opposition. However, the star at the back was Lee Buchanan, who played like the exciting player that we first signed and his well-struck goal was the icing on the cake.
In front of him Paik Seung-ho and Tomoki Iwata were able to stroll around whilst in front of them Keshi Anderson put in another solid performance. Both Jay Stansfield and Alfie May should have netted two or three although the former did score with a well-struck penalty.
All in all Blues had twenty-six shots, which on a positive note shows their superiority but on a negative note shows how wasteful they were in only scoring twice. Even the normally reliable Juke was affected when he came on as substitute, only to head into the opposition keeper’s hands from five yards out.
