Birmingham Cathedral has teamed up with experiences marketplace Yuup to bring a series of cult classics and family-friendly flicks to Birmingham for Cinema on the Square this autumn.

Opening on Saturday, September 9th, Birmingham Cathedral will be home to a series of seven blockbuster film screenings bringing cinematic magic to the heart of the city. Watch quotable classics such as Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Back to the Future and Twilight in an iconic setting with 300 years of history.

As it turns a little chillier, Cinema on the Square invites film fans to enjoy their faves against the historic backdrop of Birmingham Cathedral, creating the perfect ambience to transform an ordinary movie night into something unusual and unforgettable!

Tracy Taylor, Head of Commercial Events at Birmingham Cathedral, said: “Birmingham Cathedral is a beautiful historic building in the heart of the city. If you’ve never thought of stepping inside before – this is the perfect opportunity to visit, and enjoy some classic films at the same time!”

Birmingham Cathedral, famous for its four stunning stained-glass windows, is currently undergoing some essential conservation work. The scaffolding for this work is due to come down in November. However, the building remains open and visitors will be able to enjoy the unique surroundings of the cathedral as these works are confined to the areas around the stained-glass windows.

From September to December, there will be seven family-friendly film screenings including a festive screening of Muppets Christmas Carol.

Tickets for Cinema on the Square start from £10, with adult and child tickets available, starting Saturday, September 9th with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets plus Back to the Future.

Hairspray will be shown on Thursday, October 26th. In November, Frozen will be screened on Saturday 4th, Twilight will be screened on Thursday 16th, and WALL-E will be shown on Saturday 18th.

A festive screening of The Muppets Christmas Carol will be shown on Saturday, December 16th – perfect for anyone wanting to make their trip to Birmingham Christmas Market extra festive.

All seating at the cathedral is unallocated and food and drink will be available to purchase at the screenings.
