Almost a rare Welsh bit

Andy Munro comments on Blues’ draw at Cardiff.

For Blues to get a result away to Cardiff is a collector’s item in itself, but it was just a shame it wasn’t all three points. If I’m honest we had equal shots and a draw was probably a fair result, although looking at the managerial post-match comments, according to Lee Bowyer we should have won easily and surprise surprise, the Cardiff manager said the same thing on behalf of the Bluebirds.

Either way, it was a decent result and there were some decent performances. Juninho Bacuna was outstanding and thankfully he’s not a loanee so will be with us next season. Despite the penalty, Neil Etheridge was generally excellent and in front of him Nico Gordon and Marc Roberts are growing as a partnership, doing particularly well in standing up to the rumbustious Hugill.

Jeremie Bela is no wingback but took his goal well and soldiered on defensively but will need to take a massive wage cut if he wants a new contract. Gary Gardner and Ivan Sunjic battled away behind Lyle Taylor and Onel Hernandez, with the latter almost unplayable at times. Jordan James, despite missing a good chance to put the game to bed, came on to emphasise what an excellent prospect he is at seventeen.

However, it’s still just one win in five, preceded by an equally poor run, and that probably means Lee Bowyer’s fate hangs on getting a win against Blackburn, and whether the Chinese junta are willing to pay out a tidy sum in compensation if they sack him. Personally, I hope they give him the first dozen games next season but it’s going to be a finely balanced decision.
