Birmingham Jazz presents

More quality music for Friday night.

There’s a European flavour to this week’s promotion from Birmingham Jazz at the Jewellery Quarter bar 1,000 Trades.

Gisela Horat is a Swiss pianist who started her career with lessons in classic piano. More than twenty years ago, she began to explore the improvised music scene, attending lessons from renowned countrymen to get a better understanding of this different and exciting world. Gisela also undertook musical sessions in percussion and saxophone to extend her knowledge and get also a better understanding of the other voices within a jazz band. Her first trio was with Andy Zitz (bass) and Marc Stämpfli (drums) and she had also a duo with Maria Geiger on the violin for more than ten years. This narrative doesn’t include the many more groups she has been in, where Gisela Horat was playing jazz standards or led by her playing her own music. She brings her current trio to Birmingham on Friday 18th March.

1,000 Trades, 16 Frederick Street, Birmingham B1 3HE. Admission: Advance – standard £12.50, members £10, students £5. On the door – £15/£12.50/£5.
