Iconic Black Country pub beats the pandemic

Mad O’Rourke’s Pie Factory launches takeaway service.

Lovers of hearty traditional pub food will benefit from the launch of a new takeaway service by a famous Midlands pie maker.

Mad O’Rourke’s Pie Factory, a Black County institution for more than thirty years, has introduced ‘pies-to-go’ for its customers during the lockdown.

The pie maker, whose restaurant and bar are temporarily closed, is offering the service from its quirky venue at 50 Hurst Lane in Tipton. The venue has played host to performances by top comedians including Frank Skinner and Victoria Wood – and an inn has been on the site since the 1860s.

Mad O’Rourke’s takeaway menu includes some of its best-selling pies including 100% Bullocks steak pie, Andy Murray (curry), Posh ‘N’ Becks (steak and stilton), a Minted lamb pie called Wham Bam, Thank You Lamb, and an Eeeny Meeny Beeny chilli bean pie as a vegan option.

Priced at £7 each, the freshly baked pies are slow cooked in homemade gravy and sauces and served with either mashed potato suitable for vegetarians or battered chips suitable for vegans, and gravy pots.

The pies are also available frozen at only £3 each – and gluten-free varieties can be collected on request with 24 hours’ notice, while extra side orders of gravy, mash and chips are available from only £1.75 per portion.

Mad O’Rourke’s is accepting pre-paid orders by phone only on 0121 557 1402. Collection times are between 5pm and 9pm on Thursdays to Saturdays, with parking available on the premises to ensure a safe contact-free service.

Peter Towler, Owner of Mad O’Rourke’s Pie Factory said: “We are delighted to be able to offer our customers the opportunity to enjoy our world-famous pies in the comfort of their homes. Our hearty freshly baked traditional pies provide the ultimate comfort food during the ongoing lockdown – and our frozen options are ideal for storing in the freezer to enjoy another day.”

Peter Towler is also the co-founder of Birmingham’s national award-winning Dig Brew Co brewery, which is now offering beer at home through its new online shop at digbrew.com as the ideal accompaniment to Mad O’Rourke’s pies.

Mad O’Rourke’s Pie Factory is at 50 Hurst Lane in Tipton, West Midlands DY4 9AB. Their website is at madorourkes.com.
