Old gamers head to Digbeth for old favourites.
The nation’s favourite market dedicated to all things old skool gaming is heading to Birmingham. The Birmingham Gaming Market will provide the ultimate throwback next month, with a day entirely dedicated to blasts from gaming’s past. Brought to the Midlands by the UK’s largest retro video gaming experts, the Birmingham Gaming Market will debut in Digbeth next week, bringing an event filled to the brim with nostalgia.
If you know your Sonic from your Street Racer; have a keenness for Crash Bandicoot; or are simply missing a bit of Mario Kart 64: this is the place for you. Taking place on Saturday 6th July, Birmingham Gaming Market takes gamers on a trip down memory lane to rediscover favourites from days gone by.
With stands specialising in everything from retro games and consoles, through to gaming merchandise and custom-made artwork, the festival will bring together over 30 vendors from across the country to South and City College. From SEGA to Playstation and even the classic Gameboy, there is sure to be something for everyone: pros and noobs alike.
Replay Events, the controllers behind the event, have staged some of the biggest gaming markets and expos around the UK including London, Manchester, Glasgow and Bristol and now hold the title as the biggest retro gaming providers in the country.
Andy Brown, Managing Director at Replay Events, said the decision to bring it to Birmingham was an easy one. He commented: “There is always something special about seeing people enjoy the games of their childhood again: it brings back a sense of nostalgia and gives the community a chance to reconnect and reminisce. Those attending have a chance to revisit the golden years and, thanks to our specialist vendors, will be able to take a piece of it home with them.
“Our gaming markets were established five years ago, and have got bigger each year due to popular demand. We’ve expanded to now cover seven locations and we couldn’t be more excited to bring a taste of retro gaming to Birmingham. We are excited to be hosting the first festival in Digbeth, the city’s creative quarter, and we look forward to seeing these gamers think outside when it comes to enjoying old classics!”
