Sandwell businesses urged to enter awards scheme

Sandwell Business Ambassadors call on local businesses to enter Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

The Sandwell Business Ambassadors have urged local businesses to enter the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for outstanding achievement by UK businesses, with the West Midlands poorly represented in entries in previous years. One of the ambassadors, John Wood DL, Director – Group Corporate Services at Liberty Engineering Group Pte Limited UK, is leading this initiative in the Sandwell region.

The aim of Sandwell Business Ambassadors is to encourage the borough’s businesses to thrive by supporting and growing existing local organisations, whilst communicating what Sandwell can offer. The programme has therefore identified the Queen’s Award for Enterprise as a key opportunity for businesses.

Applications can be submitted within four categories: innovation, international trade, sustainable development and promoting opportunity through social mobility. Organisations must be based in the UK, file its Company Tax Returns with HMRC and must also be a self-contained enterprise that markets its own products or service and is under its own management. The organisations can be business or non-profit, but must have at least two full-time UK employees or part-time equivalents and demonstrate strong corporate social responsibility.

Winners will be invited to a Royal reception and presented with the award, which is valid for five years, at their company by one of The Queen’s representatives, a Lord-Lieutenant. They will also be able to fly The Queen’s Awards flag at their main office, use the emblem on marketing materials and will be given a Grant of Appointment (an official certificate) and a commemorative crystal trophy.

John Wood DL, commented: “The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is a fantastic initiative for businesses to become involved with, and previous winners have benefited considerably.

“Our aim is to support the borough and promote opportunities, which is why we’re championing the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, so our local businesses are aware and can hopefully profit from this.”
