Nechells gasholders to be dismantled.

National Grid has received approval from Birmingham City Council to dismantle the three redundant gas holders at Windsor Street, Birmingham.

National Grid is carrying out work at these iconic gas holders as they are now empty and no longer used as part of the gas system network. In their current state, the gas holder frames represent a significant safety risk and as a responsible landowner, National Grid will dismantle them.

National Grid will take all practical measures to ensure there is minimal disruption to local residents and businesses throughout the duration of these works. This will include implementing a traffic management plan, carrying out works within the permitted hours of 8am–6pm Monday to Friday and undertaking regular road sweeps to clean up any additional dirt from our works.

The dismantling project will start towards the end of 2019.

Hannah White, National Grid Land Regeneration Manager, said: “The gas holders at Windsor Street have not been used for a long time and their removal will help unlock the site so it can be brought back into beneficial use.

“National Grid works hard to minimise disruption to communities it’s working in and Windsor Street is no exception. We’ll work as quickly and efficiently as possible while we’re on site and we’ll keep the local community informed as our work progresses.”
