Crowdfunding launch for Birmingham chocolate education project

The Chocolate Quarter launches crowdfunder in a bid to educate children.

The Chocolate Quarter – a luxury chocolatier based in the heart of Birmingham’s historic Jewellery Quarter and best known for its handcrafted chocolate truffles, is on a mission to help educate local school children. The owners of the family run, independent store have set up a GoFundMe page with the hope of raising £2000 for their new heartfelt project.

Recent changes to the KS1 and KS2 educational curriculum, mean that schools are now trying to teach young children about the Biology, Economics, Cultivation, Ethics, and Science behind cacao and the chocolate making process. With many children unaware of what a real cacao pod looks like, local schools have been approaching The Chocolate Quarter in the hope of organising educational workshops from the experts.

To bring this project to life, the passionate duo Maninder and Kempes Kahrod, require generous donations from big-hearted Brummies to buy essential equipment for their interactive sessions. Gear such as a portable chocolate tank, dried cacao pods and a heated seed propagator will enable the chocolatiers to demonstrate the full chocolate making process while at the same time putting on a workshop the kids will never forget.

Maninder Kahrod, one of the founders and a head chocolatier at The Chocolate Quarter, said: “I love what I do, and would like nothing more than being able to share my passion and expertise with the future generation. Before me and my husband opened up our chocolate store, I used to work as a teacher for both young and SEN children and it’s a part of my life I really miss.

“Having led many of our chocolate experiences for children, such as birthday parties and Easter egg decorating, it never fails to surprise me just how happy it makes children to learn about and play around with chocolate. I would love to bring the same smile to the faces of a whole classroom and give them the opportunity to learn and experience something new.”

Apart from helping the local community, generous donors are also in for some chocolicious rewards! Donations starting from £20 will be thanked with a range of treats, from boxes filled with The Chocolate Quarter’s signature handcrafted truffles to chocolate experiences and the opportunity to be on the tasting panel for new chocolate releases.
