Local charity benefits from Christmas giving

Econocom ditches Secret Santa for donations to Birmingham City Mission.

Econocom UK, a European digital services company has announced that it will forgo this year’s usual Secret Santa December draw with employees donating to the Birmingham City Mission instead.

Econocom is supporting two of Birmingham City Mission’s charity programmes. One of these is a resource centre which distributes food, clothing and furniture to those in need. The charity gives out over 200 food parcels a month to individuals who struggle to make ends meet. In addition, the charity also provides gifts to around 3,000 children in the city with its Toy Link appeal.

Econocom staff have been collecting food, toys, household and clothing items since mid-November and they already have eight black bags of donations for the charity.

Chris Labrey, managing director of Econocom UK & IRL says: “The Birmingham-based charity was suggested by two of our staff members who were already supporting them on a personal level. The team jumped at the chance to do something different and we have been seeing a steady flow of donations ever since. What started as an idea within our operations team has now spread to the whole of our UK operation.

“Many of our employees already give their time and support to local charities. One of the commitments within our corporate social responsibility mission is to make our employees the first instruments of change. It has been great to see our employees embracing this by suggesting the charity and supporting people in the local community.”
