Birmingham start-ups soaring higher

New £1 million hub set to fuel new Birmingham entrerprises.

As Birmingham experiences the more start-up growth than anywhere else in the UK, the delivery of a first-of-its-kind co-working space is set to galvanise the city’s pool of entrepreneurial talent.

Property company CEG is investing £1 million in Alpha Works, delivering 14,000 sq ft of office space in the iconic Alpha Birmingham targeted at smaller businesses and start-ups. Set to launch in March 2017 the space will provide a creative and collaborative working environment for the city’s new breed of entrepreneurial businesses.

Offering everything from hot desks to private offices Alpha Works will provide flexible workspaces for businesses looking to collaborate, create and grow. As well as a contemporary styled design from award winning architects ORMS – with an impressive double height reception and event space, breakout areas and fully equipped meeting rooms – members will benefit from fast superfast broadband/Wi-Fi, a community social media platform, competitive rates and its location in the heart of Birmingham. Situated on the 21st and 22nd floors of Alpha Birmingham a key draw will also be the unrivalled views of the city.

Since it acquired Alpha in 2014 CEG has embarked on a £15 million refurbishment of the 28 storey landmark, including the delivery of a new reception, independent café, cycle and shower facilities and a brand to reflect the building’s revival. The announcement of Alpha Works follows a number of new tenant moves with Lombard Risk Management Plc, Probrand Limited, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group and Galliford Try, all committing to leases at the 190,000 sq ft tower.

Lawrence Escott, Investment Manager at CEG, said: “CEG is very excited to bring a new workspace to the Birmingham market. The city’s start-up scene is booming and leading the way in innovation and we are looking to help foster and promote this culture with the help of Alpha Works.

“We are investing in a creative environment that allows smaller occupiers access to the fantastic facilities of Alpha and the unrivalled city views. We saw a clear need to create a flexible, unique, well designed and competitive space, one that is not only located in a place that inspire and nurtures creativity but one that provides the space to work with and alongside other likeminded people to share ideas and collaborate.”
