Jewellery Quarter set for Christmas lights switch-on

Decorations add a touch of sparkle to the Jewellery Quarter.

The Jewellery Quarter is welcoming in the festive period with its annual Christmas lights switch on taking place Friday 18th November. With bespoke lights inspired by the Quarter’s rich heritage, designs including the Assay Office anchor, rings and jewellery boxes will light up the Quarter ready for Christmas.

Organised and funded by the JQBID, the light switch on will be taking place between 5
– 7pm on the Golden Square. Visitors can enjoy food from Birmingham favourite, Esmies’ Caribbean & Seafood, and for those with a sweet tooth, Platinum Pancakes will be on hand to serve up some Nutella goodness.

Visitors can also marvel at the 30ft Christmas tree that will taking centre stage on Golden Square throughout the festive period. Food won’t be the only thing entertaining the crowds, with The Glamophones performing some festive and feel good covers, followed by local jazz band, Real Breeze, which ‘yule’ be sure to love, and a striking firework display against the backdrop of The Big Peg at 6pm.

Luke Crane, manager of the JQBID, says “We’re so excited to officially mark the start of the festive season with this year’s Christmas lights switch on. With bespoke lights based on the Quarters’ rich heritage, we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors and residents alike to come and celebrate the switch on with us. We can’t wait to see the lights sparkling across the JQ, especially as we’ve expanded the scheme to incorporate more streets this year, and we’re looking forward to seeing everybody get into the festive spirit!

“With the new tram from the centre taking less than ten minutes, it’s now even quicker to head down to the Quarter and explore the many local independent businesses that make this area so unique, and perfect for a spot of Christmas shopping!”
