Half-term fun from Birmingham Contemporary Music Group

School holiday musical events.

Birmingham Contemporary Music Group are leading a series of workshops and events during the autumn half-term.

Music my Map are free, drop-in creative music and drawing workshops for the whole family, in Weoley Castle Library and South Yardley Library on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th October. BCMG has come together with Ikon Gallery to run these events, where we will create music and drawings inspired by the place in which we live. What shapes, textures and colours describe the sounds you hear near your home? And what patterns and lines would your feet and body create if we mapped the journeys that you make every day? BCMG will explore these questions as we create new music and drawings. Small percussions instruments and art materials will be provided. Music my Map is part of the national Family Arts Festival 2016.

For 8-11 year olds, Music Maze is a fun, participatory workshop led by the BCMG learning team alongside BCMG musicians. Take the opportunity to create your own music, with no previous experience necessary! Children are encouraged to bring an adult family member to take part alongside them.

Zigzag is an exciting ensemble for 12-18 year olds who play a musical instrument and can read a little bit of music notation. Composer and bassist Ben Markland will lead the session, in which young people will create a new piece of music from scratch. Both Music Maze and Zigzag take place at Trefoil House on Sunday 30 October.
