Southside gears up to launch global food festival and pop-up street market.

Championing alternative ideas to weekend days out, the second city’s vision for the future comes alive on Saturday, 30th May with the launch of Taste & Liquor’s Global Food Festival, Indoor Street Market and Pop-Up Space.

Home of Chinatown, Theatreland, Pride Birmingham and the Gay Village, Taste & Liquor – a new concept space – will be transformed into a vibrant street market presenting some of the world’s finest street food traders with the very best pop-up boutiques the region has on offer.

Manga Singh, Director of Taste & Liquor says: “ We’re very excited to be launching Taste and Liquor’s Global Food Festival and Indoor Street Market at Southside’s vibrant district. This being a long-term project, with a look to grow, we have planned a number of special events throughout the year to mark the festive seasons,

“Our aim is to unite the community, encourage residents back into town on the weekend to discover many tastes, sounds and new experiences, while supporting independent businesses across the Midlands.”

Presenting street food pioneers of the future, dishes on offer will promote a number of delicious sweet and savoury flavours from around the world. With an aim to introduce new and exciting dishes from Spain, Japan, Italy, Jamaica, India, Turkey, Thailand and Portugal new traders will take up weekly residency in the outdoor space.I nside, Taste & Liquor’s Street Market comes alive as the ground floor is transformed into an independent and creative space. Taste and Liquor’s vision is to present a market with a difference, with something new and unique for all ages and taste.

Each week, handpicked stalls will present exciting treats and goodies in all shapes and forms; home accessories, vintage clothing or some of the hottest styles and sounds from Birmingham’s cutting edge fashion labels and record outlets. There will also be a wonderful selection of food, cake and fresh bakery stalls on rotation each week.

Taste & Liquor will be also be launching T&L’s Cocktail Master-Classes. Here the team will show the art of mixology, flavour combinations and much more. Pick up some tricks of the trade from their in-house T&L Stall and be guided through the cocktail bar alchemy, be taught how to blend in classic cocktail combinations with bartender’s top tips before being let loose to practice on their pop-up stall.

Alongside this will be a number of unique programming to make this destination a one-stop-shop for the weekend. Check out their Book Swap Shop: swap old books for new or book a seat at their Cinema Hub, where film classics like Back To The Future, Pretty In Pink & The Breakfast Club will be screened.

If you’re into sports, indoor get-togethers have been planned to celebrate some of the UK’s biggest sporting events, including the FA Cup Final on Saturday 30th May, from 12pm plus some the biggest DJs from the scene will be gracing the decks to spin soulful jazz, soul and house throughout the day.

Taste & Liquor is all about socialising, enjoying a day out while having fun with this in mind they’ll also be presenting Southside’ 1st City Carnival in August, as well as Board Gaming Zones, Ping-Pong Stations, Beer Pong Tables, Retro 80’s Karaoke Competitions, The Residents Lunch Club, Single’s In The City events, Whiskey & Gin Tasting Sessions and much, much more through-out the year.
