Born2Sing bring festive fun to the Fort

Birmingham’s out-of-city shopping park invites students to perform festive showcase.

The Fort Shopping Park is inviting families to join them celebrate the festive season with an exciting line-up of activities and events. On Sunday 21st December the students of local organisation, Born2Sing will be filling the air with rapturous notes and inviting shoppers to get involved.

Wife and mum of three, Gemma Mills set up Born2Sing in 2012 after a lifetime of singing and performing and a number of years’ experience as both a songwriter and Vocal and Performance Coach.

Born2Sing take on students of all ages, with their youngest being just four years old and their eldest 80, all that’s required is a passion for singing. She set up the organisation to allow her students to have the opportunity to perform any genre they desire; there are no limitations to the training offered, teaching everything from pop, rnb, rock and soul to jazz, blues, musical theatre, reggae and more.

There are fantastic benefits that come with singing. As Gemma says, “Singing is a fantastic way to express our feelings, to relieve stress and build confidence.”

As a mother to a child with a brain disorder, Gemma recognises the benefits singing can bring in particular to anyone with special needs or mental health difficulties “I have found this area of my teaching very rewarding. I have learnt that singing can be used as a therapy, to help children gain confidence they didn’t have, or found difficult to access.”

The Fort is delighted to welcome a group of longstanding Born2Sing students aged 9-21 years to perform and spread seasonal cheer the weekend before Christmas. Past performances from the talented bunch of ‘Born2Singers’ include Children in Need and a performance in the Birmingham City Centre for the Queen’s jubilee.

The Fort has a fantastic offering for families; from family friendly restaurants, to essential high street retailers. Over Christmas there will be even more on offer too, including Santa’s Grotto, a visit from his Reindeer and pop-up character performances for the whole family to enjoy

Marjan Horne, manager of The Fort said: “We’re delighted that Born2Sing are joining us this year! I can’t wait to hear them perform and have a good sing-along myself.”
