Award for Jewellery Quarter business

Talbots boss is UK Packaging Awards Rising Star.

Julie Fowler-Drake, managing director of leading jewellery, gift and retail packaging company Talbots has won the UK Packaging Awards 2014 Rising Star Award, having been shortlisted from hundreds of entrants by senior packaging experts from the UK retail and brand scene.

Julie beat off stiff competition to take this year’s title, having taken Birmingham-based Talbots from strength to strength since becoming MD in 2010. Judges were impressed with the tangible results Julie has delivered and the way she has moved the business forward at such an early stage in her career.

Since taking the reins, Julie has made significant changes to Talbots, developing a robust business strategy to boost profit margins and secure business from major high street retailers. Talbots now provides innovative packaging solutions for national and international clients and continues to secure sustainable financial growth.

Speaking of the award, Julie said: “I’m delighted to be named as this year’s UK Packaging Awards Rising Star and to have Talbots achievements celebrated by my industry peers.

“My vision for Talbots has always been clear; I wanted to turn what was essentially a packaging wholesaler into a proactive packaging partner. I am very proud that I have been able to realise that vision and continue to push the business forward.”

Talbots has been located in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter for more than 70 years, having been founded by Julie’s grandfather Frederick Fowler in 1941. Julie succeeded the business from her father Graham in 2010 and continues to serve a number of independent retailers in the Jewellery Quarter.
