Batty event set for half-term

Meet the bats at Martineau Gardens.

Wildlife fans (adults and children alike) are invited to find out more about these intriguing nocturnal creatures in the company of BrumBats, at a new evening event on Wednesday 16th April, 8.30pm till 9.30pm. The Community Garden in Edgbaston, Birmingham is hosting the event to educate people about bat populations as part of its wildlife conservation programme

The guided walk will take place at dusk, in the wooded, wildlife areas of Martineau Gardens. Morgan Bowers and other experts from BrumBats will explain what species of bats have been seen in the area, what habitats best suit bats and why we should be doing all we can to help conserve this protected species. Bat detectors will be on hand to reveal what’s flying overhead and you’ll be able to hear bat calls, usually too high pitched for humans to hear.

Caroline Hutton, Director of Martineau Gardens said: “Often people dislike bats because of their association with spooky films, events like this help to explain why bats are a protected species. Their sensitivity to environmental change is an indicator of the consequences of environmental pollution.”
