Youngsters to get the chance to experience university life.
Black Country pupils are being offered free taster sessions in law, social sciences film and languages, to show what university life has to offer.
The University of Wolverhampton is hosting a series of classes which demonstrate the content of many of its courses. These are being aimed at primary, secondary and college pupils, and include subjects like law, uniformed services, deaf studies, social sciences and more. They will take place at the university, starting next month and running until April.
Each session is run by lecturers and specialist staff to provide pupils with a realistic experience of University life and teaching. Some events are designed for students who are researching possible careers and making decisions about subject choices and courses. Each school or college can book up to ten places per event. All pupils will be able to attend the classes for free, from year three upwards.
Dr Anthea Gregory – Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, said: “The Faculty of Social Sciences is delighted to be able to offer an entirely free programme of activity to local schools and colleges; we hope that our programme of workshops will raise the aspirations and confidence levels of children and young people, inspiring them to see that University is a destination for them and one they can readily achieve. This taster programme supports young people in exploring the very many opportunities available to them.”
