Duo set to raise funds for cancer charity.
Sherry Woolgrove and Sarah Moss are taking a stand in the fight against leukaemia as they join Team Cure Leukaemia for the BUPA Great Birmingham Run.
Sherry, who lives in Oswestry in Shropshire, is currently battling Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and met Sarah, from Solihull, during a visit to the QE Birmingham where Sarah works as a Cure Leukaemia research nurse. Sarah’s role is to support leukaemia patients in the region who are undergoing clinical drug trials.
The pair became friends during Sherry’s visits and knowing Sherry is a keen runner, Sarah suggested they take on the half marathon together. Sarah and Sherry will now face the Midlands’ largest half marathon to raise funds for the Birmingham-based charity, which supports blood cancer patients in the region.
Sherry is set to finish her chemotherapy in August. She said, “Meeting Sarah has had such a positive impact on my journey, understanding and dealing with this disease. When she mentioned the run to me I knew I had to be involved. I want to do everything I can to show my support for Cure Leukaemia to ensure there are enough specialist nurses like Sarah to treat and support patients.
“I have known many friends who have been affected by blood cancers in the past and sadly I know budgets for treatments are not limitless. It is only through new funds that advancements in research can be made and we can provide improved lifesaving treatment and potentially a cure.”
Sarah Moss, Cure Leukaemia research nurse at the QE Birmingham, said: “Sherry is such an inspiration to me and I’m so happy to be able to run by her side for Cure Leukaemia. I can’t stress how important it is for us to have great people on our team like Sherry who are so determined to make a difference. Without the help of Sherry and hundreds of others who will be running for Cure Leukaemia, it wouldn’t be possible for us to raise the funds for new drug trials that make my job possible.”
We’re looking for more people to join Team Cure Leukaemia for our biggest fundraising event this year. For more information or to sign up please email[email protected] or call 0121 236 9202
