On a mission

One of the area’s longest-established charities for helping disadvantaged people are holding a fund-raiser later this month.

Birmingham City Mission is a Christian charity (registered charity no. 1051023) established in 1966 and is committed to both caring for the poor and marginalised of our city and to sharing the Christian message. They run projects throughout the city, bringing practical help and comfort to the elderly, the homeless, disadvantaged young people and those struggling with poverty.

This year BCM’s Sponsored Walk & Cycle is happening on Saturday 21st September, taking in an 11km route along Birmingham’s canals. On the way there will be a treasure hunt, so participants will have to spot locks, bridges, facts & figures as they walk or cycle to solve the clues. It will be a chance for all ages to have some fun, enjoy the city and raise money for Birmingham City Mission at the same time.

The route begins at BCM HQ in Bordesley between 10.30am and 12 midday.  Participants will travel past locks and through tunnels to Gas Street Basin and the Mailbox to the BCM Resource Centre, which provides essential food and other goods to those in need. They can stop off here for a cuppa and piece of cake before returning on the same route back to BCM HQ. The walk takes around three hours, longer if you bring a picnic to eat as you go, or at the Peace Garden next to the Resource Centre, the half-way point.

Please join BCM for this great day out for all, and raise much needed funds for those in need in Birmingham.
