After record visitor numbers over February half-term, The Public in West Bromwich will once again be welcoming families from across the region to join them for a great day out this Easter.
Over the Easter holiday fortnight (29 March to 12 April), visitors will be able to explore the gallery’s free exhibitions, Black Country Legends, take part in a number of hands-on workshops, enjoy fabulous children’s theatre and participate in a giant Easter Egg hunt!
On 1 April the West Bromwich venue will celebrate the beginning of the Easter holidays with April Fool Around. Designed specifically for 18 month to 4 year olds the family activity zone will be packed full of giant soft play, sensory games and fun toys.
Over 11s looking to try their hand at stop frame animation will be able to capture and animate their own short films using web cams and animation software at our ever popular Digital Animation Day on Monday 8 April. All films produced in the workshop will be uploaded to The Public’s website for everyone to see.
Over the Easter break visitors to The Public will also be able to experience Black Country Legends, a collection of exhibitions celebrating the region’s charm, quirkiness and characters. Highlights will include a Black Country themed computer game based on the popular PlayStation game, Little Big Planet, and a huge map revealing the things that are odd, curious and unique about the region.
Throughout the week, families will also be able to take inspiration from the exhibitions, helping create their own Black Country themed comic on 1 April, or Black Country puppet using a variety of arty materials on 3 and 10 April.
On Wednesday 10 April, The Public will also welcome The Three Billy Pigs, a new children’s theatre production by Noisy Oyster. Blending the classic fairytales, The Three Little Pigs and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, the show features beautifully crafted puppets and light hearted story telling.
Linda Saunders, Managing Director of The Public said: “Throughout the Easter holidays The Public will once again be buzzing with activity with something for the whole family to enjoy. Not only will we be hosting a variety of family friendly workshops, visitors can explore our free exhibition and interactive artworks.”
