Former Stranglers frontman Hugh Cornwell will be in Birmingham at the weekend.
After almost forty years in the spotlight, Hugh Cornwell is still one of Britain’s most talented and enigmatic performers. He remained best known for his seminal work with the Stranglers, but since leaving the band in 1990 Hugh has also put out a formidable body of solo work including the Hooverdam album which was released as a free download via his website in 2008.
Since then Hugh has toured extensively, playing both Hooverdam and the Stranglers debut album Rattus Norvegicus in their entirety. The logical step would have been to give the band’s follow-up No More Heroes similar treatment, and this is what Hugh is now doing. With a keyboard player augmenting his usual three piece ensemble, Hugh is currently touring the UK performing the album, which earned the band a gold disc when it first came out in 1977 and contains some of the Stranglers’ best-known songs, including Something Better Change and the title track, both of which were top ten hits.
Hugh will also be giving a live outing to his latest album, Totem and Taboo, which was released last month on Cadiz Records.
The 12 date tour calls into Birmingham this Saturday 13th October when Hugh plays the O2 Academy. Tickets are £18 (£50 VIP) and are available from www.o2academybirmingham.co.uk
Full details of the tour, which also plays the 02 Academy in Islington on 19th October, and other Cornwell-related information, can be obtained from www.hughcornwell.com
