There’s a very special night at the Robin, tonight, when local heroes Magnum hold the launch party for their new album On the 13th Day. Admission’s free so turn up and help one of the region’s most enduring bands celebrate their new release.
There’s something else a bit different to the norm on Tuesday when one of the world’s top mediums, Phillip Solomon, presents an evening of clairvoyance. Tickets £10
Wednesday sees a return to more orthodox events with a blues double header. Finnish guitarist Erja Lyytinen has released a string of albums as well as playing around Europe and becoming a regular on the festival circuit. She’s appearing with Mitch Laddie, a young British guitarist whose second album Burning Bridges was released recently. Tickets £13
On Thursday there’s Jimi Hendrix tribute Are You Experienced? Tickets £9
One of the Robin’s favourite artists performs on Friday. Andy Fairweather Low first came to prominence with Amen Corner in the sixties, then embarked on a successful solo career. He’s worked with just about every big name in the rock hierarchy including Bob Dylan, Elton John and George Harrison. He’s also spent many years touring with Eric Clapton and with his own band the Low Riders has remained a top live attraction. Tickets £17.50
Rolling Stones tribute the Counterfeit Stones are at the Robin on Saturday. Tickets £12.50
Sunday lunchtime sees the monthly final of the Robin/M2 Studios live band of the year competition. Tickets £4
Sunday evening sees a return for the highly-acclaimed prog band Karnataka. Singer Hayley Griffiths has toured the world with Michael Flatley’s phenomenally successful Lord of the Dance and Riverdance, the band themselves have worked with artists such as Robert Plant, and their latest album The Gathering Light has won global praise.
