Six local bands from across Birmingham and the Black Country have been selected to take part in one of the most eagerly awaited festivals to debut this year.
The Now We Are Weekender, taking place at The Public in West Bromwich over the Easter weekend of the 7 and 8 April, will feature over 30 bands from across the UK and Europe including Berlin based art-rockers, Art Brut, Birmingham’s cult hero collective, Misty’s Big Adventure, and Stephen Fry’s ‘favourite new indie band’, Toy Horses.
After a recent competition run by festival organisers, Funny Looking Cat, Dakota Beats, God Damn, Young Runaways, One Sixth of Tommy, Circus Town and Silver Souvenirs, will now have the unique opportunity to perform in front of hundreds of festival goers.
The Easter weekend mini-festival will present everything from twee indie pop to rock ‘n’ roll across two stages, and will also include a fascinating array of handcrafted merchandise stalls and family friendly workshops for all ages to enjoy.
Emma Cooper, Manager of Funny Looking Cat said, “We’re absolutely delighted with overwhelming response from local bands looking to be part of the Now We Are Weekender. Whittling over 100 entries down to just six was incredibly tough, but we’re confident the line up showcases an eclectic mix of genres to cater for all tastes.”
Daniel Harris from Dakota Beats said, “Our first gig was at The Public, so it’s great to be returning to where it all began. When we heard about the Now We Are Weekender we just had to apply – not only because of our strong connection with the venue but also the great reputation the festival holds. After being selected from over 100 different applicants we are very excited.”
The Now We Are Festival takes place on 7 and 8 April 2012 from 1pm – 2am daily.
Weekend tickets will be £15 (Children under 13, £5, under 5s, free), with individual day tickets £10.
