Taking inspiration from Black Country venue’s Art of Architecture exhibition, 15 students were asked by the principle architect of the building, Will Alsop, to imagine a ‘fantasy hotel’ where every room was different and made you feel different.

Over the last three months, each of the students have been busy building their own unique miniature rooms, with different colours, textures and techniques used to create a series of diverse environments.  A thought-provoking piece, Fantasy Hotel, allows the viewer to see beyond the surface of a hotel to reveal a mysterious, playful and natural world.

Linda Saunders, Managing Director of The Public said, “Fantasy Hotel is a fascinating work of art that looks at how different environments make us feel.  By displaying the work of students from Walsall College, we’re providing an exciting opportunity for early career artists to display work in a gallery alongside those with international reputation.”

Tracy Watkins-Smythe, Lecturer at Walsall College said, “The exhibition has provided the students with valuable experience of exhibiting work in a gallery and working alongside arts professionals.  To have their work seen by thousands of visitors is of great testament to the hard work that has gone in to the project.”

Fantasy Hotel will take on display until 20 May, Wednesday to Saturday, 10am – 5pm, Sunday, 11am – 3pm, and is free to visit.
