A People’s Cabaret is a great crossover event bringing the best political song, music and live storytelling to South Birmingham.
If you like your political songs full of power, passion and a great sense of humour, you will want to come to the next cabaret at the Kitchen Garden Café on Sunday 22nd January with guests Dave Rogers and Fred Wisdom.
Dave Rogers, artistic director, singer songwriter and founder member of Banner Theatre, sings with guitar maestro Fred Wisdom – his collaborator for over 10 years – blending blues, jazz, flamenco, reggae and folk to present an up-beat, tuned in commentary on our times.
Dave Rogers and Fred Wisdom are a couple of 21st century troubadours. They mix lyrical ballads like “Wild Geese” based on the experiences of migrants to the UK in the 1950s with their acid rant against bankers “Jump you F**rs”. These songs take no prisoners and tell it how it is.
Together they tell the stories the corporate media neglect to cover, stories from the 99% who rarely get their voices heard, not the 1% who dominate the airwaves. Whether it’s asylum seekers in Harmonsworth “Dreaming of a Safer Place” or young people waiting for the Coalition’s “Green Shoots of Recovery”, Dave and Fred will listen to their stories and turn them into song.
Tickets are only £7 – book them now from the cafe or via 0121 443 4725 because the last event was sold out.
