Singer-songwriter John Smith will be performing his new album Great Lakes at the Glee Club Birmingham, Friday 5th April 2013.
John is an inventive guitarist with an unconventional percussive style, and has an unforgettable honeyed gravel growl of a voice. The Guardian have likened him to Ray LaMontagne. During his career John has self-released three records; The Fox and the Monk, Map Or Direction and a collection of covers, Eavesdropping.
In 2012, John made his new album Great Lakes and toured with Lisa Hannigan, Richard Hawley and Joe Henry. He has also previously toured with John Martyn, Iron and Wine, Seth Lakeman, Davy Graham, John Renbourn, David Gray, Cara Dillon, James Yorkston, Martin Carthy, Jools Holland, Tinariwen, Martin Simpson, Gil Scott-Heron and Chris Thile.
His new album Great Lakes is out on March 25th and has been produced by Grammy award winning Joe Henry (Lisa Hannigan, Loudon Wainwright, Teddy Thompson, Elvis Costello).
