People at home urged to take part in anniversary celebration.
People from across Birmingham are being invited to unleash their creative energy and be part of a unique artwork to celebrate the 110th anniversary of John Taylor Hospice.
Fleeting Moments will be staged at Library of Birmingham in November and December 2020 and will feature work from people of all ages and backgrounds.
The hospice is asking everyone across the city to make their own birds to be included in the artwork, alongside birds made in community settings.
The birds will then be brought together as a flock in a special artwork in the foyer of the Library of Birmingham where Fleeting Moments will be free to view and visit.
Birmingham-based artists Jane Thakoordin and Margaret Murray have created instructions which are downloadable from John Taylor Hospice’s website so that anyone who wants to participate can create their own birds at home.
Fleeting Moments is being created during the 110th anniversary year of John Taylor Hospice which was founded in the city in 1910. One of the oldest hospices in the country, John Taylor teams have been caring for generations of local families through two world wars, economic hardships and numerous changes to health care.
Hospice Head of Brand and Media Diane Parkes says: “This is a landmark year for John Taylor Hospice and Fleeting Moments is a way for every single person who wants to help us celebrate to be part of our special anniversary.
“Whether people are making birds in a community group or creating a bird at home, we will be bringing their pieces together in the exhibition at the end of the year.”
The theme of Fleeting Moments is ‘every moment matters’, the motto of John Taylor Hospice.
“At John Taylor Hospice we believe that every moment matters – even the most fleeting of moments,” says Diane. “Whether that moment is something beautiful like watching a bird fly high or painful like being with your loved ones in their final hours, it is these moments which make up the fabric of our lives.
“By asking people from across our communities to create their fleeting moments we are aiming to bring everyone together in this wonderful project. We really hope people will be inspired to join us in creating their birds.”
Fleeting Moments is one of a series of events taking place to mark the hospice’s anniversary which also include a Secret Garden Ball, an Edwardian-themed Summer Fayre and a Sunset Walk. To take part in Fleeting Moments by downloading your instructions please click here
