Local musician Rob Briggs was impressed by the two large sprung dancefloors at the Edwardian venue, and felt the classic ballroom look of the Town Hall would be an ideal location for a Northern Soul Sound Clash event, where two styles of music are played.

For the first event on Sunday 10th February, seven piece Ska band The Interpreters will alternate sets with Northern Soul and Motown DJ Sean Taylor. It’s ideal for anyone interested in Northern Soul, Motown, original Ska or the 2 Tone revival that followed.

Sean will be dipping into his extensive collection of dance floor fillers, taking Sutton back to the days of Wigan Casino, the Twisted Wheel and Blackpool Mecca.

Local ska band The Interpreters will feature guest keyboard player Danny McCormack of Roy Wood’s band, plus Duane Eddy’s saxophonist Paul Corry and Al Beat of The International Beat on percussion. They will play an infectious, foot stomping set of ska classics, from Toots and the Maytals to The Specials.

Town Hall Development manager Julie Rennison commented “We’re so excited to be working on this joint Sutton Sound Clash project. We feel it will make the most of the new-look lounge and Sir Doug Ellis Bar, as well as being the perfect use for our huge ballroom dancefloor. We are planning a guest real ale bar and are already looking at future collaborations with other styles of bands to combine the best in live music with Northern Soul DJs.”
