One woman play tackles the subject of body image during Black History Month at Artrix.
The taboo subject of skin lightening and body image is being tackled in one woman play, LITE, at the Artrix arts centre in Bromsgrove on Friday 20th October.
Birmingham-based playwright and performer Marlene McKenzie has created LITE, a powerful, multimedia stage production, exploring the theme of identity and self-image through a young black woman’s eyes.
This performance of LITE taking place at Artrix has been funded by Bromsgrove Council’s Equality and Diversity fund to celebrate Black History Month October 2017.
LITE combines drama, humour, pathos and vulnerability and explores the issues of identity, family and conformity through a compelling, emotional-gripping and far-reaching exploration of skin lightening.
A Q&A session will take place after the performance on 20th October to stimulate conversation and raise current issues on body image across all ages and groups of people.
