At long last Tony Pulis appeared to have listened to criticism of his defence-based stratagy. Sit back, soak up pressure, don’t concede and hopefully snatch a goal on the break. From the off Albion took the game to the current league c hampions with a side including the return of James Morrison , dictating play.

What a return for Mezzo as he headed the opening goal. I’m not sure who was more delighted, he or the ecstatic travelling fans. An immediate City equaliser. all to play for, could we hang on for what would be a well-deserved point?

You bet, as Matt Phillips, enjoying his best game since his transfer, latched onto a mistake, honed in on goal and a delightful chip netted what turned out to be the winner. Three badly needed points, especially as teams in a similar situation had eased their own plight via a series of unexpected victories.

Without question hunting down the Foxes was well merited. It was a solid all-round performance witheveryone playing their part, so much so that media outlet outlets had difficulty agreeing who had been the Baggies Man of the Match. Phillips, Evans, Fletcher, Rondon, Morrison, McCauley , take your pick; it’s all a master of opinions but from the comfort of Gogglebox-watching I’d plump for Jonny Evans – cool, calm and collected.

Salomon Rondon played to his strengths; strong, prepared to chase, harry and close down the opposition. For such a big man his first touch can be admired. He has his critics but I’m not one of them.

Boosted via this win, fans can but hope that this more positive approach is continued, which begs the question will Tony Pulis make changes as Nacer Chadl will be fit to return, taking into account that James Morrison is worth a regular place in the starting line up? It’s a nice problem and better than having no little or no choice.
