School hosts event for budding musicians

Music-loving children are being given the chance to hone their skills at a special workshop in Birmingham this weekend.

Kimichi School of Music is holding the music workshop 19th century headquarters in Acocks Green on Sunday. There will be musical games, yoga and introduction to instruments for the children who attend. Qualified music teachers will prepare the children for a small ensemble concert at the end of the day.

School principal Sally Alexander, who established a similar school in Antigua before moving to Birmingham, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for children interested in music. “There will be a fantastic atmosphere at the school on the day and the children will get a real sense of achievement after performing in the ensemble concert.” She added: “The instruments are provided and the workshop is free so all the children need is a packed lunch and a love for music.”

The Kimichi School is an independent secondary school specialising in music and is enrolling for the next academic year. The school is the first of its kind in the West Midlands and offers an all-round education whilst paving the way for pupils to have a career in music. Fees are lower than other independent school and help is available to apply for bursaries and sponsorships for talented pupils.

Miss Alexander added: “We are delighted with our new home, Eastbourne House in Acocks Green, and it has taken a lot of work to get this wonderful building ready for Ofsted inspectors and pupils. We want to be a part of this community and we will be putting on events like this children’s music workshop throughout the year.”

The workshop is between 11am and 4pm at Kimichi Music School, Yardley Road, Acocks Green, on Sunday, July 13. For more information email [email protected] or visit www.kimichischool.co.uk.
