Villa CEO calling on support for 100 foot abseil

Football boss takes on challenge to help beat killer disease.

Aston Villa’s Chief Executive, Paul Faulkner will help to beat cystic fibrosis on Sunday, 6th July 2014 by taking part in a charity abseil at the football ground.

35 year old Faulkner will be abseiling at Villa Park to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Paul decided to support the Trust after finding out his son has cystic fibrosis soon after he was born in September 2013.

Paul says it was a big shock finding out his son had the condition:  “William is our first child and we were filled with all of the natural worries and concerns new parents have before he was born. There was no history of cystic fibrosis in either of our families, so it was a devastating shock when he was diagnosed. We had to learn very quickly about the condition and the daily routine involved in ensuring William stays healthy.  I’m pleased to say that he’s now seven months old and doing well.”

Paul, who has been Chief Executive of Aston Villa since May 2010, is keen to support the Cystic Fibrosis Trust: “I am doing this abseil challenge so we can fund research into cystic fibrosis. The Trust marks its 50th anniversary this year and the outlook for people with cystic fibrosis looks really positive now compared to 50 years ago.  It is a great cause, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust do great work and so I urge people to get involved.  It is definitely a challenge but I am looking forward to it. The Holte End at Villa Park is an iconic stand, and so to have the opportunity to abseil down it and see it from a different perspective will be a very special and unique experience.”

Money raised will enable the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to invest in cutting-edge research to develop better treatments and, ultimately find a cure. It will also provide support to those with cystic fibrosis and their families and help the Trust to drive up standards in medical care.
