Opportunities for young cinemagoers to influence future production.

Arts Connect West Midlands have teamed up with independent cinemas and screening spaces from across the region to involve young people aged 14 to 19 as Film Ambassadors in creating exciting new film experiences for children and young people.

As Film Ambassadors young people will, through the programme, change the current film offer in the region, tailoring it to young people by enabling access to a wider selection of films which are relevant to young people and also the UK Industry.

Young people will programme films at cinemas, work with film distributors and production companies, take part in film workshops, watch inspiring movies and create total film experiences which engage the audience in the themes, story and characters. Film Ambassadors will also work with the venues to promote the events and attract new audiences.

Rebecca Hardy, Arts Connect Film & Digital Programme Developer said: “This is an exciting opportunity for young film enthusiasts to become film critics and help develop film audiences across the region. Young people interested in films are welcome to get involved and help shape the way young people watch and share films across the West Midlands.”

Arts Connect West Midlands is one of ten Bridge organisations, funded by Arts Council England to connect children and young people with great arts and cultural experiences. The Film Ambassador programme will run across The Independent Cinema Network which was established as part of Arts Connect’s brief to support film centres across the West Midlands in working with children and young people.

Film Ambassador meetings will take place at The Light House, Wolverhampton; mac Birmingham; The Hive, Shrewsbury; The Artrix Bromsgrove; and Wem Town Hall, Shropshire.
