Visitors to capital face longer delays.

London Midland has revised the alternative travel arrangements put in place for passengers travelling between Watford and London Euston during the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.

As part of an £81 million investment to improve reliability and punctuality on the West Coast Mainline, Network Rail will be carrying out significant upgrade work from 3rd–5th May 2014, which means the railway will be closed between Watford and London Euston.

Initially passengers were advised to travel via rail replacement coach services between Hemel Hempstead and Edgware station on the London Underground. However, Transport for London will now be carrying out its own programme of upgrade works on the Northern line over the bank holiday weekend. As a result, the Northern line will be closed between Edgware and Camden Town.

London Midland’s rail replacement coach services will now terminate at Stanmore, a London Underground station on the Jubilee Line. Barrie Cottam, London Midland’s Head of West Coast services, said: “We apologise for this late change to our plans. Our replacement coaches will now connect into the London Underground Jubilee line rather than the Northern line.

“Hopefully this will not be an inconvenience to the majority of our customers but I would advise them to check their onward journey plans through London. We continue to urge all customers to check their journey arrangements before travelling and use alternative routes where possible. If you have to travel on the affected dates then be prepared for longer travel times and coach replacements.”
