Birmingham Friends of the Earth are pedalling for laughs.
Comedy fans will be heading to the Glee Club on 20th November for Pedalling for Laughs! to help encourage more cycling and clean up our city. Building on the success of last year’s There’s Something Funny in the Honey Birmingham Friends of the Earth are organising a second comedy gig, this time as part of their air pollution and cycling campaign, Let’s Get Moving.
With the comedy fundraiser featuring a spoketacularly good line-up, including local celebrity comedian Barbara Nice plus fantastic local acts James Cook, Stella Graham and Steve Day and featuring Adam Kay, frontman of the legendary musical comedy act the Amateur Transplants, the group are hoping to appeal to all comedy lovers.
Sandie Gay, organiser of this year’s comedy gig, said: “We raised £1,000 for bee-friendly projects in the city with our first comedy gig which we are extremely pleased to see come to fruition. “This year we want to do even better and raise much more money with our second gig; this time for cycling projects that make it easier for people to cycle, helping reduce the traffic in the city, the biggest cause of poor air quality.”
“I am proud to be supporting Pedalling for Laughs!” said Janice Connolly, who tours the country with her one-woman act as Barbara Nice, ordinary Kings Heath housewife and fabulous comedian.
Adam Kay is pleased to be supporting the campaign saying: “I recycle and I’m vegetarian so whilst I’m not officially a Friend of the Earth I’d like to think of myself as a colleague of the earth. I am, however, an enemy of the moon.”
Tickets for this fantastic line-up are being peddled at £12, £8 for students plus early bird and group discounts available. They can be purchased from the Birmingham Friends of the Earth’s building The Warehouse in Digbeth or online from the Glee Club website.
