Top Birmingham comedy venue the Glee Club have announced two new dates, including the return of one of the city’s biggest names in a charity event.
Women & Theatre’s annual comedy fun(d)raiser is back on Sunday 6th October – celebrating the company’s 30th anniversary with Mrs Barbara Nice hosting a night of fun and laughter featuring her personal selection of the cream of female UK comedy talent.
Barbara Nice is the comedy creation of Women & Theatre’s Artistic Director and founder member Janice Connelly. Janice has starred in Peter Kay’s award-winning Phoenix Nights, as well as Max and Paddy, Thin Ice (BBC), Dead Man Weds (ITV) and Coronation Street. The Mother of Comedy, local legend and inspiration to us all, Barbara Nice is a character to behold. Tickets are £15/£12 nus.
Then on Thursday 7th November, Luke Stital-Singh will be appearing at the venue. Luke’s debut EP Old Flint was released through Raygun Records and produced by Iain Archer (Jake Bugg) and Dave Lynch. His recorded work thus far showcases his love and complete understanding of the understated complexity of acts like Sigur Ros and Bon Iver. He also cites Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Josh Ritter and Damien Rice as his other major influences.
With Luke’s first EP having received huge support across Radio One, BBC 6 Music and XFM from a list of tastemakers including Huw Stephens, Fearne Cotton, Phil Taggart, Steve Lamacq, Rob Da Bank and Dermot O’Leary, this second offering really showcases a young songwriter coming into his own.Tickets £7.
